Human Resources Development Center - Changjo Kwan

Samsung has always been known as an incubator of outstanding people. Since its establishment, the company had poured its resources into hiring and nurturing talented individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the company and the nation.

Indeed, it was said that the founder of Samsung, Lee Byung-chul, had devoted some 80% of his life to finding and fostering the development of talented people. It was under his direction that the company established the Samsung Training Center in Yongin, in June 1982.

This talent-first philosophy was so deeply rooted at Samsung, it continued naturally under Lee Kun-hee when he picked up the mantle from his father. “It is imperative to foster talent across different fields to drive growth in the new era,” Lee emphasized. “That is the only way to transform Samsung into a future-oriented business and create an innovative management system.” This belief drove him to spearhead a number of significant changes to help the company secure the right human resources to meet the needs of the time.

His vision was to create a space where innovative and creative thinkers could be nurtured into 21st century leaders. To this end, a plan was developed to construct a second training center called Changjo Kwan, which opened in September 1991.

Changjo Kwan is not just an expansion of the existing training center. It will be the cradle of Samsung’s intellectual growth that will enable the company to leap into a new world. Creative education offered here must therefore be of the highest global standard, and those who receive it must have the mindset and awareness to fully absorb it.

Throughout its wide range of training programs, Samsung HRDC has taken to heart Chairman Lee’s philosophy about talent development being the best preparation for the future. Its overarching goal is twofold. First, to instill pride and professionalism among all employees, from new hires to executives. And second, to stay ahead of the curve by strategically nurturing the next generation of leaders for Samsung, with global competencies as the fundamental core.
